Today I was reading Scott Fregette’’s blog where he took the time to answer some of the comments about what is going in the next version of Dreamweaver.

While I still think that for the smaller web design shop (SOHO or otherwise) the server side behaviors are important and lately I have noticed a drop in Classic ASP support in favor of ASP.NET support by some Windows hosting. Since MS has not updated Classic ASP for over five years I see the handwriting on the wall for that technology. Not everyone wants PHP.

While I will admit to being one of those Scott talks about who hand codes (or uses another tool) for my ASP.NET stuff not everyone is capable of doing the same. The simple database calls and records management is sufficient for most small shops and I will be sorry to see it go. I am glad to know that color coding and syntax highlighting will continue. If I read Scott’’s reply correctly ASP.NET code completion will also continue to be in Dreamweaver so the forecast is not as dire as I was thinking.

Timelines, JSP, Flash (something I rarely use but when I do it isn”t the Dreamweaver generated Flash) are things I will never miss. Layers, well if I could still do a flip or handspring I would to see that go. If I never hear the word “layers” again for position: absolute containers I will be a happy camper.
