I’ve been recommending Sectorlink as a reliable and friendly web host to all my clients for years now. Of course it doesn’t hurt that they’re also very price competitive…

It wasn’t until earlier this year, when I registered jkwebstudio.com, that I started using Sectorlink myself. I’ve been lucky enough to have an arrangement with a former employer hosting my other domains. But this time I signed up with Sectorlink, and I have been very happy so far. Especially the customer service is simply outstanding.

Just take my latest two issues.

A few weeks ago I started looking into using CGI for uploading files. My current solution uses PHP, but PHP has a built in limitation on file sizes that prevents anything larger than 2 MB uploads. I’d never written CGI scripts before, so I was having some beginner problems. I opened a technical support ticket with Sectorlink, and within hours they provided me with a working “Hello World” script to get me started down the CGI path.

Today I had another great experience with customer support. For some reason my php upload scripts did no longer work. I think this was caused by Sectorlink’s switch to no longer supporting PHP4, resulting in my account running in safe mode. After notifying Sectorlink about this, it took less than 20 mins for it to be resolved.

So I’ll keep recommending Sectorlink. They are fast and responsive, and in case you’re wondering, no, I’m not in any way affiliated with them.

Going on the hunt web hosting can be daunting. When I started my football forum I needed a windows server specifically so I could run an asp program. Affordable hosting is even harder to come by if you don’t do the proper searches for it. I like being able to do a blanket search for a few things of what I am looking for in web hosting service such as space and cost. Once you get a list, you can get more in depth of exactly what they offer verses the other companies listed and check out how they are rated by customers or prior customers of those particular companies because in the end it could save you a lot

WebHosting Choice lets you search for the space you need, amount you are willing to pay, setup fees you are willing to pay and how much bandwidth you think you might use. I did a quick search for pretty much the minimum of $5.00/month, 500 MB of space, zero setup fee and 1 GB of bandwidth. I was pleasantly surprised at the list of choices, the first of which included hostgator for $6.95/month with 3500 MB and 50 GB of bandwidth. That’s cheaper than what I am paying now with more space. There is also some helpful information for you to be on the lookout for when hosting package in their scams section. I keep trying to tell some people about the one where they offer to buy your domain name for you but if you get ticked off at that hoster and move to another one they could potentially keep your domain as hostage. It is a bad situation all WebHosting Choice offers some excellent resources and information for even the most newest of people who think this is a daunting task can get the help they need.
