Resourcenfuchsen Für Große Anwendungen

Ich schreibe gerade eine Klasse für ein größeres Projekt und suche dafür die Resourcen ärmsten Möglichkeiten.
Folgendes ist mir schon mal aufgefallen, will ich eine Datei von ziemlicher Größe kopieren so zeigen sich durch die folgenden beiden Lösungen schon große Unterschiede.

Datei: test.avi (241,74Mb)

system("copy /a/test.avi /b/test.avi");

Variante 1 belegt den httpd Prozess mit einiges an Auslastung geht aber sehr schnell. Lösungsansatz 2 benötigt so gut wie kaum Resourcen, braucht aber bedeutend länger…

Auf welche Lösung würdet ihr eher zurück greifen?

System sollte eigentlich auf jedem PHP5 Webspace zur Verfügung stehen !?
