My Top 3

Since I posted last, I seem to have gone on a bit of a bender. At the moment, the blog (what you’re reading) and most of my other affairs such as email are hosted by Servage (please ask for a referral code if you want to sign up, we would both get discounts) and they are doing quite a good job if I do say so. The only trouble with hosting is that it isn’t broadly configurable. I can’t, for example, use SubVersion with it, or run an IRC server, if I had any desire to.

So what I ended up doing was looking into a Linux VPS (Virtual Private Server), and the best deal and company I could find to go with were Linode, so I signed up for their base VPS deal (a Linode 360). Now I can run what servers I want, and configure everything exactly how I want it, which is a much better idea from my point-of-view, although I know some users prefer the guided approach of hosting.

I don’t have any plans to move the blog over and everything and cancel my Servage hosting anytime soon, it’s doing pretty well here for now so it can stay. I need a VPS because I’ve started developed Project ajix again, and it seems to be developing into a full PHP-based web framework, or at least thats where I’d like to get to with it. To do that as easily as possible, I need SubVersion, hence why I rented the VPS.

I realise I haven’t worked on the Linux CD for a while, but I have been rather busy with university assignments (and still am for the next couple of weeks at least). But at least this’ll give a chance for Xubuntu 8.10 to come out and for me to try and do it with that instead of the older version.

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for improving the blog (Eee PC related or otherwise) I’d love to hear them and work out how to put them into practice!
